CALCITE
spirituality – centering – purification – energy – protection – patience – healing – meditation – psychic awareness – transitions – unconditional love – money
Calcite [ CaCO3 ] is an anhydrous carbonate mineral of the Trigonal group, and is the most stable, and most common polymorph of Calcium Carbonate. It is crystalline in form, found usually in deposits of limestone and other sedimentary type rocks (due to the fact that it is a main constituent in the shells of dead marine organisms); Often found in hot springs, as well as cave systems in the form of stalactites and stalagmites. One must remember when working with calcite, that although it is stable in cold water, it will start to dissolve when heat is added (called “retrograde solubility”), causing a reaction from the heat and releasing in a gaseous form as carbon dioxide. Acids will do the same thing to Calcite… think of this carbonate dissolving like Alka Seltzer dissolving in a fizz when dropped into a glass of water. The color range of Calcite is clear to white, gray, red, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown, and black. The most common color used in jewelry and for decorative purposes is creamy, honey to golden- yellow, often banded with shades of the yellow and white. Can be seen from translucent (as in Iceland Spar, which is mainly used in optical light polarization called “Polarimetry”, used frequently in the measuring of electromagnetic waves) to opaque depending on the mineral impurities found in the specimen. Calcite also at times may contain phosphorescence or fluorescence in its structure.
Calcite [ various | various (see below); akasha ] Keep in mind that since the majority of Calcite is formed from the remains of sea organisms that this places Calcite in the “akasha” aka “fifth element” class, and as such it will work very well as a binder in combining the energies of all the elements together as one, working in unison. Not much is said regarding this form of stone in regards to metaphysical uses and healing practices. Due to its relation to the ease of electromagnetism, it is very useful in opening up the pathways to one’s psychic awareness. Calcite helps to break down walls and barriers, as well as helping to solve those problems that reoccur in ones life, mistakes that are made over and over again… it will help you look at these aspects of your personality and grow from the knowledge of what they reveal. It is also excellent in bridging the barriers between the seen and unseen worlds around us. Due to its double refractory abilities, it is used to “double” the power of any metaphysical rituals and rites. Helps release any blockages in your system, both physical and spiritual. Works well on digestive problems and stress. A very calming stone, it helps one to meditate and calm oneself from the every-day stresses and challenges one faces. Patience is a key, towards oneself and others, and Calcite is excellent in teaching this. As in all color therapy, each color of calcite has different properties that can be utilized across the spectrum, relating to what color the stone is ( This applies to all stones in regards to color therapy, one of the most widely practiced forms of healing with stones.). Calcite helps one open up and evaluate oneself, to be vulnerable just as this stone is vulnerable to the elements, and learn from this vulnerability- making one a stronger person both physically and spiritually. A perfect stone if you are experiencing transitions in your life, it helps you cope with these changes… for instance, menopause; as well as puberty; pregnancy; a new area; a new job. A stone of unconditional love, teaches one to accept both oneself and others in all of our idiosyncrasies.
